Robert is an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and very active in his community. Currently, he serves on the tribal council as its treasurer, and he is recently retired from serving for many years as the tribe's Cultural Resources director. Robert endeavors to protect Siletz ancestral places of importance (including archaeological sites and resources), and tribal access to places and assets that perpetuate traditional cultural practices and lifeways.

In addition to his board membership with Yakona Learning Center, Robert serves on the Elakha Alliance, the Oregon Historical Quarterly Advisory, the Willamette Falls Trust, and the Willamette Falls Locks Authority. He is an active member of the Northwest Native American Basketweavers Association, and has spent many years working on LGBTQIA2S+ justice and equity issues. He is a graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts, with an AFA in Museology and minor in 3-D Arts emphasizing traditional techniques.
