The Call of the Wild

Stepping into the Yakona Nature Preserve means stepping into the home of some of the Northwest's iconic wildlife.

This secluded peninsula is home to a healthy family of black bears; a nesting pair of bald eagles; an elk herd, now numbering some 64 strong; as well as cougar, osprey, deer and owls, all thriving in their natural habitat.

From raucous black ravens nesting high in the trees to rough skinned newts ambling across the forest floor, look carefully as you walk the trails in this thriving coastal forest ecosystem. Patience and silence might reward you with glimpses of the creatures that make their homes here.
