Explore Yakona’s Unique Experiences

The Yakona App offers captivating experiences that immerse users in the preserve’s diverse history and natural beauty. Users will hear from founders Bill and JoAnn Barton, and learn about the Yaqo'n people and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, who were the first to call Yakona home. Users may explore the contributions of T. Egenton Hogg, discover the story of the West Yaquina community, understand the role of this region during World War I, and even climb the West Yaquina Heritage Tree with scientists. Additionally, the app highlights current conservation efforts and the ongoing restoration of old-growth habitats, while educating about the preserve's diverse ecosystems, leave no trace policy, and the importance of student science in all Yakona does.
