writing self and place
Are you a word lover, outdoor enthusiast, or simply looking for slow time in nature? Then this writing class is for you! Enjoy a hike through Yakona’s forest mosaic and lush understory, engaging all senses to pay attention to the forest and awaken your unique creative voice.
Participants of all experience levels are welcome! You will be encouraged to write in multiple genres throughout the workshop, inspired by provided writing samples and the forest around us. We will also get to share and offer feedback for our newly sprouted pieces with each other. The facilitator will be present for encouragement, guidance, and craft-focused instruction.
Our exploration will take place along well-established trails through hilly terrain and sustained grades of up to 12%. Those with mobility challenges, breathing difficulties, or balance concerns will find this experience difficult, though we will stop for sustained breaks for writing and sharing throughout the day.
All materials are provided, but participants may bring their own special journal or writing utensil if preferred. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring ample drinking water, snacks, and a packed lunch. Participants are encouraged to come prepared for a slow, attentive walk, periods of stillness and quiet writing, and a day immersed in nature.
